I made a papercut-illustrated book based on the Book of Esther from the New King James Bible, as this is a story that is close to my heart. The idea is also a play on words as it is a holey-holy book. Holey due to the papercuts and holy because of its religious background. It is then placed in a woodcut box.
This book was completely handmade, including the end papers, papercuts and section-sow binding. Machinery was only used for printing and cutting the wood. Illustration is done in Illustrator and layout using InDesign.
I created four spreads for inclusion in Craft Victoria’s annual report. This included their sustainability report, showcasing their exhibitions and financial notes. I took some photos of their exhibits for the Annual Report, and some of the photos were given by Craft Victoria. A San Serif font was used to give the report a modern-art feel.
As Craft Victoria is mainly focused on art and handmade goods, I hand-bound a Coptic binding book (binding it on the short edge as it will create a more luxurious spread), using MDF wood as the front and back cover. Layouts were done in InDesign, photo editing using Aperture and Photoshop and the woodcut and etching files were prepared in Illustrator.
